the most things i missing in Golems

- no cone gears (i want to build differential)
- no "inner side" gears
- no worm-gears
- no scripting. use a functions with a simple input-to-output graphs is a very complicated to make some algorythm. (me dream is self rocket-engine control system that automatically will stabilize rrocket in all 3 dimensions - i dont know how to do it with just functions in golems.

Re: the most things i missing in Golems

To add to the Golems:
1. Yardstick (measure the distance between the parts)
2. Show at what angle rotates the part.
3. Normal gear with a hole in the center.
4. Add your own texture.
5. Automatic alignment of gear teeth.
6. Chain.
7. Semisphere (specify the exact angle of disclosure as a pipe).
8. Hollow sphere (specify thickness of the shell).
9. The plane (without thickness).
10. And all of those things Telo.

Re: the most things i missing in Golems

Thank you both for your suggestions, I'm sure they will be worked on as soon as we get some people able to further develop the program, only problem is I don't know when that will be, sorry.

Elektronbrain- I believe you can import your own textures. It's not a user friendly UI, but there is a way. I'll have to double check that though. As far as some of the things you've suggested you can do yourself. I understand things like measuring the distance between two things by rotating and stretching a cylinder and then hitting enter to find the height isn't the most exact method, nor us it as short as having a button for it, but Golems is an open source project that unfortunately was dropped by its developers. So until we get some people who know how to script this particular program, well have to wait for some of the fancy bells and whistles that some expensive 3D modelers have.

Please don't take this as me wanting the suggestions to stop, I want suggestions, but don't think you can't make something because there's not a button for it. Making a tool or a part for a project is half the fun of putting it together.

Adapt and overcome.

yes, it is bad that developer dropped the project. this is unique project, I can't find anythink like this.

I thinked that the main thing needed is to allow import models from other 3D software... .obj is a standart 3d format. So users will be able do and construct everythink they want in "big" programs, and import parts to golems.

Re: the most things i missing in Golems

@ Telo- There are others out there but aren't as good or as feature rich as Golems or have their own issues. (IMHO)

Here are some if you're interested:
1.NewtonPlayground Quite powerful too with the ability to import 3D models and textures but I like Golems way of interacting with objects better.

2.Laputan Blueprints (nice idea, but some features require some LUA programming like jets, although its amazing you can create a 3D object by placing 2D objects on a 2D plane) Successor of the legendary Rigidchips.

More here: (My site emoticon )
http://freegameslist.weebly.com/physics-games.html

Now for some suggestions:
1. Add lights! Can be directional- good visual indicator, I'm sure people can find it useful. You can also change color and add strobe effects and strength!
2.Option to make material not collide but still be part of a mechanism (not static though).
3.Tabbed selection: By pressing tab (or another button) you can cycle through all the objects on the screen, even if they are hidden inside of other objects.
4. (Optional)Gears with slanted teeth. Think monster truck wheels!
5. Control limits for hinges- ie lower and upper limits (got idea from Incredibots)So you can control if its has 90°, 45°, 30° or any other limits. Must also be visual ie you can see the limits just by clicking the hinge!
6. Differentiate the different objects in Golems better. Eg a cylinder and a rocket physically look exactly the same! Another example Oscilloscope, input, multimeter, touch sensor also look the same physically. Another example force beam and capsule also look the same! Also if there is a direction for an object like say a rocket, there should be a way for users to know what it is, so that they don't put rockets upside down for example, simple way is to add an arrow.
7. Special select- Allows user to select only a specific type of object eg only gears, only rockets etc.. also select all of a specific type eg select all gears in scene, select all cylinder in scene etc... You can implement this as a right click option on the objects in the tool menu, so when you right click on say a rocket it shows a small menu:
   Select only rockets
   Select all rockets
   Don't select rockets
(eg when you select a large mechanism and to want to unselect the rockets)
8. Add default option for settings, eg for force of the springs or force of a hinge there should also be a default button. Also you can add ability to save these settings eg suspension seetings for pistons.
9.Import/Export Landscapes: (got idea from Laputan Blueprints/RigidChips) You should be able to create a landscape eg a simple obstacle course and be able to import it when needed or even make it the default landscape.
10. Snap to center: for circles, rectangles, gears etc.. Will eliminate lots of headaches and wobbling!
11. Destructible objects: (Optional)(got idea from Phun/Algodoo) There's a function in Phun/Algodoo called Impulse break limit found in the axle object. Default is infinite, but if you lower that and the axle is involved in a collision of sufficient force the joint is broken. Its used extensively for crash testing, just look at the youtube videos for crashes in Phun/algodoo, they love crash testing! Now if you could add the feature in Golems! Then a car could crash and fall to pieces!
12. (Optional) Objects that float in air! Like balloons (got idea from Phun/algodoo)
13. Create chains: (Got Idea from Phun/algodoo) The idea is that you have a based object eg cuboid then you click a button maybe "Create chain from object" and the program creates a chain from the object, great for tracks!
14. Camera Paths: Its would be cool you have the ability to create camera paths. So that instead of static camras, you can craete a 3D (or 2D) path for the camera to follow.
15. Follow object. (Got idea from Incredibots/phun/algodoo) It would be nice for a user to be able to click an object and select an option like 'Camera Focus' which means that camera will keep looking at the object automatically as it moves throughout the scene. This can work in various ways. The camera itself can be made static but still look at the object as it moves around. Also the camera can actually move around and follow the object (but without actually colliding with the object)

Also I support all the other suggestions made on this thread as well.

Re: the most things i missing in Golems

@Telo - Definitely, I talked about getting maybe kickstarter to help the cost of getting golems back into development, the only problem is we would have to find software developers/programers able and willing to develop it further.

@Tiberious - I definitely like some of your ideas. There are also some I see that are already possible, but not already made into a shortcut or preprogrammed like in other programs. If you're interested in how you can accomplish numbers 4,5,6,7,9,10,12,13,14, and 15 just send me a PM and I can explain it a little further if I don't get a tutorial on any or all of them in a timely manner. I unfortunately have been working a lot, and hobbies have seemed to been popping up more than completed projects.

@ ARKtest thanks!
But for the time being lets find more ways to promote Golems.

Re: the most things i missing in Golems

HI, I'm Austin, and I'm am wondering if there is someone working on updating the game Golem's, I've been using Golem's for a few years now(and became a God of it) and i was hoping if there is any new developments, as in new texture capabilities, new gears settings and types, and new custom shapes, and new special things as in gravity fields/magnetic fields/light fields/maybe have lasers and light reflect, refract, curve, and make it bend with gravity. More to the list, can you add some water/liquid fields or fluids, also can you add some temperature to the materials and gases and liquids ect. Also can you add in a median as in the option for air so it reacts to materials and flying machines as in propellers, jet engines, wings, aerodynamics. In conclusion i know this is asking a'lot and the developers are probably totally forgot about this game and or few are possibly dead, anyways please get back to me if you are still there, i really love this game, than again its been a very long time, so yeah that's it.
