We need a way to get this game out there.

I think that this could be a super popular game if more people just knew about it! So what would the best way to do this be?

Thank you for joining! The old site used to be pretty popular and a lot of posts and topics will make to forum look less dead. I'm trying to talk to the owner of the old forum and get him to make it so when you go to it that people will be told about this one. I went ahead and put this forum in the runboards index and added the keywords to get it on google.

What I've been doing is adding golems ads or links to my signatures on the other forums I'm on. Other than that telling your friends is the only think I can think of so far.

I found this place after thinking about how fun this game is, and how much I need to find a good place to talk about it.
Also I should add this game to my signature, in the forum that I have over 3000 posts on.

Agreed, I have a simple request which is related to this.

Can someone please post a tutorial (or 2 or 3 or...) on Youtube on how to use Golems Universal Constructor?

(FYI I have a general idea of how its works, but its far from comprehensive. )

Here's why I think its important to make tutorials:
1. There isn't a single tutorial on Youtube! At least from what I have seen. All I have managed to see are some challenge videos, and the promo video.
2. Golems is quite powerful but not necessarily intuitive. Best example the properties menu for materials, gears, etc which you activate by first clicking on the object and pressing enter (makes sense but only in hindsight), doesn't come intuitively, you must read the manual to get it or ask someone. And lets face it, some people just aren't into reading pages and pages of text to get something done. A video can easily show how to do such things without having to read the manual and can reach a much larger audience (via Youtube) IMHO.
3. This reason is a little more subjective. I have realized that for me and probably others as well seeing tutorials on Youtube also carries another meaning which is "this is important to me". Now granted there are videos on Youtube for Golems, they are mostly showcases, not tutorials. Its like "look what I did, cool eh? But I ain't showing you how I did it!". For example look and the countless minecraft videos! There are more than single person can ever watch in his/her lifetime and many are tutorials! Its shows lots of people value Minecraft.

Ideas for videos:
1. Basic how to interact with golems.
Important elements to explain:
*Properties menu
*Transparency (Yes I know its changing the Alpha channel, but not everyone knows that)
*How joints work/ are placed etc..
*Explain the various properties of Joints
*Multimeter
*Functions
*Lots more..
2.How to make a simple car with steering.
3. Tanks! People love tanks!
4.Making simple canon/catapult/gun etc.
5.Spaceships! etc...

You can even break down the videos to create a series for how to videos.

Its important to not only showcase what Golems can do but also how it can be done.

Also its not like I'm not doing anything to promote the 'game'
I added it to my page: emoticon

It's great that you're interested in helping promote Golems! I completely agree with you about the tutorial videos. As I said in my reply for your post in the Suggestions thread, I'll get to work on some tutorials. If anyone else is making tutorials, even better. Go ahead and let me know what you're doing and/or post a link so we can all check it out. It is also great that you put us on your website, just another way to hopefully get the news that this program exists.

Re: We need a way to get this game out there.

Anyway I have another simple idea that my be able to:
a.) Get Golems noticed by more people
and
b.) may even get some programmers on board.

Here's the idea.

We need to get Golems into:
http://www.indiedb.com
Its a well known site for Indie games both free and commercial. The thing is we need the creator or someone who is in charge of golems to create a company name there so it appears here:
http://www.indiedb.com/company
and then add Golems Universal Constructor as one of their games.

You will have to create an account to do so.

Now how is this going to benefit us?

1. We can add Golems to their growing database of Indie games. ie more publicity.
2. They have a special Jobs page:
http://www.indiedb.com/jobs
Where companies can ask for people looking for Jobs both free and paid. We can use this to find out if there are programmers out there who could help with GUC.
3. There have a variety of other forums for specific categories that we can also use to ask for help or even promote the game.

But its important the the person who creates the company account be serious about Golems and its future. That's why it shouldn't be done by just anyone.

So any other ideas?

Also one more thing about the YouTube videos. I think its important they we work together in creating it or at least inform others when we intend to make them. That means if one person decides to create a Golems tutorial video on YouTube they should inform the others that they are in the process of doing so, so that we don't end up with 5 people making the same tutorial! Maybe we can even add a separate thread for YouTube videos?
