Official Open Source Release (Version 1.0.0)
Hello everyone,
I am pleased to announce that Golems has officially gone open-source. The source code is available from Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/golems/
So for those of you who are keen Java programmers, you are welcome to get started! This has been in the works for a while and we're really excited to see what new direction the project might go.
But as a word of warning, Golems began quite a long time ago as, basically, a practice and learning project by Sam. It wasn't intended for public release in the beginning, and we never really knew how far it would go. So some of the earlier code might be hard to understand and poorly maintained. Hopefully that will gradually get cleared up as other people start reading and contributing to it, but Golems might not be the easiest open-source project to get started with. Please don't be discouraged!
If you're interested in participating as a developer of Golems, don't forget to introduce yourself here: http://bgucfanforum.runboard.com/f8
You will need to use Git (a version control system) to download the source code repository from Sourceforge. The procedure depends on your operating system. For Windows users, we suggest http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/. If you have any questions, just ask in the development forum.
